Witnesses tell Albuquerque police a fight broke out inside the Sunshine Theater during a Yo Gotti hip-hop concert and continued into a nearby parking lot where one person was fatally shot.
“What we understand from witnesses a dispute of some sort took place inside of the actual venue and then that dispute spilled out onto the streets,” Albuquerque Police Department spokesperson Tasia Martinez said.
Exclusive KOB-TV video shows the moments after a crowd leaves a rap concert only to get caught in the crossfire.
It happened around midnight at the Sunshine Theater on 2nd Street and Central Avenue.
A man slumped over a green car falls to the ground after being shot in the head. Police and EMS arrived soon after, but it was too late.
The parking lot became a crime scene.
Friends and family showed up and learned the horrific details.
Several blocks were closed for hours as police looked for clues and a suspect.
Sunrise brought out neighbors who described what they heard.
“And we can hear that a concert had been going letting out here at the Sunshine so there were people who were out singing, having a good time, then shots rang out and within 5 minutes the place was just swarming,” said Carolyn Meyer, who lives nearby.
Police are now dissecting KOB’s video and are asking for help in solving this homicide.
“Well it’s horrible. It’s horrible and under any circumstance. It’s something about hearing the shots and knowing that somebody was killed just gets you in the gut,” said Meyer.
Police are looking for a gold, 4-door Maxima or Camry with a spoiler.
The male suspect is believed to be driving the vehicle and is considered armed and dangerous.
A second person is in the hospital after being shot in the arm.
